Gareth Shears

At Sanctuary

I like to see myself as the ideas person. Always looking at advancing the business towards the future. The core of what I want is to ensure that the client journey adds value and we help people achieve their goals.

I believe that to do this you need to learn everything you can about a person and what makes them tick, what really drives them each day and where do they see themselves in the next 3-5 years.

At Home

I live in Caerphilly, with my partner, Kath, and we have a wonderful boy Callum.

When we are not out at the park, play centre or in Cardiff bay walking, Kath and I love dining out in new restaurants.

I’m still trying to get myself backing into fitness and as I have recently turned 40 it's back on the agenda.

Getting under the skin

  • Proudest moment

Taking the step into the world of self-employed Financial Adviser in February 2009 after a global crisis, leaving behind a secure job. There have been highs and lows along the way but I'd never go back.

  • Three words that would describe you

    1. Loyal

  • What are the values that drive you?

Life is full of surprises and changes. Some good and some bad. It’s how you react to those changes that define you. Take the positives out of them, learn from them and move on.

I have always believed if you work hard and remember the people along that journey the rest will click into place.

Advance Diploma in Financial Planning

This qualification allows Gareth to hold the prestigious title of Chartered Financial Planner

Why choose a chartered financial planner?

Quite simply, it’s about dealing with a professional. Chartered financial planners have made a joint public commitment with the CII to deliver the highest standards of professionalism, then placed a public badge on that commitment.

The Chartered badge proudly tells you when a professional has made a public commitment to putting you first. The badge says it all.

What were the circumstances that caused you to look for a financial adviser?

Financial advice about transferring an occupational pension into a private pension.

How did they help you?

Helped by giving me advice which was thorough and comprehensive, identifying the pros and cons of each financial option available. Then managing and coordinating the transfer of the pension, from the occupational pension to a private pension and monitoring its performance.

What is your current situation? Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The pension is now invested in a suitable personal pension, which is appropriate to my individual nears, the outcome has been very favourable.

What could they have done better?

Nothing, I am very satisfied with the advice and services I have received.
